What about the walks?

Day walks range in length from as little as 6 miles (easy) to 14 miles or more. Walks in mountainous areas or wild moorland could be strenuous.

Will I be able to keep up?

South Stack AngleseyIf you are unsure about your fitness, try an evening walk or easy day walk to start with, or seek advice from the walk leader. Note that even easy walks will involve some hill walking over rough ground.

What about lunch?

Some walks will include a pub or tea shop, but in remoter areas bring food and drink with you.

What should I wear?

Please read carefully – and be prepared for sudden changes in weather. You are likely to need:

  • Comfortable walking boots (not trainers)
  • Waterproof jacket and overtrousers
  • Warm clothing – plenty of layers including thermals, fleece jumper, gloves, hat & scarf
  • Walking or sports trousers (not jeans)
  • Sun hat & sun lotion
  • It’s a good idea to carry spare food and drink, a torch (in Winter), a first aid kit and an emergency survival bag.

Where do we meet?

Most day walks are out in the Peak District or other hilly areas. We usually meet in the car park in front of Macclesfield railway station, where we can leave some cars and pool lifts to the start of the walk. NB The meet place can sometimes be different, and this will be indicated on the programme.
